CBS News projects that Democrat James Talarico won the Texas Senate race (unofficial until certified). Here are the main points of his victory speech on election night, 3-4 November 2026. CBS News report

• He opened with “We just took back Texas.” No amount of money and no politics of division, he said, can beat the people. He told the story of David and Goliath and thanked supporters: “You were my slingshot.”
• He spoke of his years as a public school teacher on the west side of San Antonio, and of his mother, who left an abusive home and raised him. With no room for a nursery, he slept in a crib in her closet. His lesson: “Always, always bet on the underdog.”
• He promised to be a senator for the Texans who did not vote for him too. The real fight in the country, he said, is not left versus right but top versus bottom, because the billionaires want ordinary people divided.
• He called for a politics of love in place of hate. He pointed to his 60,000 volunteers, who delivered water to Sand Branch, school supplies to El Cenizo and more than 20,000 pounds of groceries to families in Fort Worth.
• His goals: get big money out of politics, universal health care, investment in teachers and students, and an end to endless wars. He closed with “Texas, it’s time to start flipping tables.”
